How To Get Rid Of Acne Scars
Acne scars are my biggest skin insecurity. I love going fresh faced everywhere (I honestly only wear makeup if I’m going out or filming for you guys) and when doing so, I hate the look of acne scars on my face. It sucks knowing that my skin has cleared up a tremendous amount but the scars are still there to show past breakouts. I find these extremely hard to get rid of and although there are laser treatments and microdermabrasion available, I was never looking to spend hundreds of dollars on treatment for this. That being said, I decided to give you guys some insight on how to lighten/get rid of acne scars and a few products that can help with this!
Skin Lightening Products
These include masks, creams, etc that state they are “whitening” or “lightening”. Don’t be fooled by the name, they DON’T bleach your skin (I see people say that often and I roll my eyes), they lighten any hyperpigmentation or scarring. Look for products that contain kojic acid, arbutin, licorice extract, mulberry extract, and/or vitamin C.
I always thought retinoid was for anti-aging or severe acne, but I was wrong. It helps with any type of acne, fine lines and skin discolouration as well. Retinoids boost collagen production and speed up cell turnover which helps create fresh, new skin with less scarring than before.
Baking Soda Exfoliant
Mix one teaspoon of baking soda and two teaspoons of water together to create a paste and use it to exfoliate your face in circular motion. Baking soda can be used to exfoliate the skin and minimize the appearance of acne scars. This can also be used for spot treatment.
Glycolic/Salicylic Acid Treatments
These are found in a variety of skin care products and help shed layers of skin, which in turn helps bring scars/hyperpigmentation to the surface and allowing it to be treated.
Lemon juice has natural bleaching properties (we all know this, duh) so therefore it can easily lighten acne scarring on your face if you’re looking for an all natural and cheap remedy! Just mix equal parts water and lemon juice and apply only to the affected areas and leave on for 15-25 minutes or overnight. This should eventually (after multiple treatments) prove effective.
